The researcher’sargument relies on the assumption that when taking the test in stage one, thestudents

 

A. performed as well asthey would have on a TOEFL problem set

B. were not under theimpression that they were competing with other students

C. did not know theirperformance were recorded

D. believed that even ifthey were competing with another student, they would not achieve a higher levelof performance

E. had not warmed upenough to attain their peak performance

 

当很多同学认为原文围绕着学生第一次测试和第二次测试的表现不同,其原因获许和发挥水平不稳定有关,因此倾向于E(第一次测试尚未完成热身)的时候,忽略了一点,就是E选项恰恰是削弱原文,而不是加强。答案出其不意的指向了心理层面,就是学生在两次测试中对于是否参与竞争这件事的知觉不同。

 

9小故事:

著名武侠小说家金庸有一个鲜为人知的写作习惯。当年他在明报连载武侠小说的时候,到了快结尾的时候,喜欢召集一群自己的死党好友到家中聚会,讨论结局应该如何进行,比如《雪山飞狐》的最后,胡斐在生死攸关之际是否使出绝杀。会有一些本身就很有文采的作家,如倪匡等人,按照人物性格和一般规律给出引满堂喝彩的故事结尾。听完后金庸总会微笑不语。隔几天后明报上刊载的最终篇,必然会跌破所有人的眼镜。因为金庸永远会选择跟大家想的不一样的那个结尾。

  

由这个故事我们可以想见GMAC的出题人恐怕有类似的偏好,就是故意搞出一个我猜到了开头,却猜不到结尾
